For Aurélie Sampeur, curator of LASA

Under the Tenth Havana Biennial , LASA - Laboratorio Art of San Augustine - held its second and third public trial on the exploration of identity, from the visual and auditory senses . The artists and groups invited contextually worked during his residency and developed plural works in relation to planning, architecture, religion and society as well as the imagination, dreams and innermost feelings of passers of the deal.

The diversity of issues addressed (mobility, environment-friendly, human desires) and the techniques (photography, performance, installation, painting, audio-visual, drawing, poetry) illustrate the possibilities offered by the artists at LASA residence. Each artist participating in the laboratory should immerse themselves in the context san agustinense to create in situ, outside of institutional frameworks and enclosed spaces, sensitive works that contribute to the research conducted by LASA on the current line the identity of St. Augustine. Each artist is able also to prepare their claims open workshop of 150 m² : The Center LASA. This space functions as an information and meeting with the public specialized, but also with the local public role to provide a more transparent to the outside.

Throughout 2010 and 2011 will take place on public trial # 4: touch, building furniture (street markers, bus stops, benches, fences, etc.) As permanent marks on the urban fabric. In April and May 2010, LASA Center artists will be available for public trial # 5: the self-perception that consist of an exploration of the subject in relation to its environment. In fact, each has a different scale of its territory, the surface area and needs in this space, its value, the internal and external mobility, trade, the opening or closing of this place whose boundaries can be transparent or impenetrable.

During the spring of 2010 will take place on public trial # 5: the self-perception. LASA will host European artists, Latin American and Cuban. His artwork will have as focus the self-perception: "How one is perceived in relation to their environment?" influence is through art on the perception of space one day and frequent perception of that environment. The artist may be amended by a direct action on the residents and passersby. Integrate them into the creative process: Some artists can work on how people inter-act with the public space: how they appropriate it, reject it, take care of it, modify it, and so on. The artist can also act directly on the same space, integrate their work. Then use different technical and / or objectual that influence space as a car, posters, panels, fences, buildings or existing buildings. Many artists choose to develop a proposal in which to mix the two approaches.

The goal is for artists to develop works in public spaces that provoke, stimulate through various resources, reflect on the territory and the individual perception of each in this space . The artist will have to take into account the specific context of San Agustín (periphery, dense and extremely heterogeneous population, among other things), but also the opportunities and resources framework reduced Cuban and LASA, privately funded project of the creators .
